Portugal: 63% of the electricity consumption in 2014 was supplied by renewable sources
Data was published by APREN, the Renewable Energy Association and show that large dams were the main source of electricity generation, contributing with 29.4% of electricity consumption, followed by wind with 23.7% of the consumption. The third source of electricity in 2014, however, was coal (22.2% of the consumption).
Solar power accounted for 1.2% of consumption and biomass for 5.4%. As in 2013, in 2014 Portugal benefited from favorable weather conditions and the capability factors in both hydropower and in wind plants attained 1.27 and 1.11, respectively.
