The 2015 edition of the European Week for Waste Reduction: Fostering change through awareness raising actions

Between the 21st and the 29th of November, the 2015 edition of the European Week for Waste Reduction takes place. The EWWR 2015 will take place under the patronage of the European Parliament and focuses on the issue of Dematerialisation - Doing more with less!

The EWWR 2015 will be implemented all over Europe (and beyond!) with the aim of promoting the implementation of awareness-raising actions about sustainable resource and waste management during a single week. The EWWR, in fact, represents an occasion to engage with and spread awareness on the hot topics of the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!, as well as on Dematerialization.

Dematerialization, standing for a way to use less or no material to deliver the same level of functionality to the user, has been adopted as the main theme for the 2015 edition of the EWWR. Dematerialisation includes the idea of replacing products with services, as well as of improving the use of materials (by reusing products, by substituting materials, by using fewer materials for a specific function). Solutions like sharing economy, services replacing products, and improved materials will become essential and more and more important towards resource efficiency.

The EWWR therefore invites everybody warmly to get started by organising a simple activity during the EWWR 2015 and to spread awareness on Dematerialization through their actions! Participating is simple: Just visit the EWWR website and find a large database full of examples and ideas of what action to organize, as well as all information on how to participate. Furthermore, there are a lot of support tools available that help Action Developer in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of their dematerialisation action!

The EWWR welcomes any type of action related to Dematerialization and to the 3R’s, and involves public authorities, associations, NGOs, businesses, schools and individual citizens. Actions can take the most various forms and can vary from conferences and contests to exhibitions, workshops, information campaigns and much more.

In the past six editions, more than 24.800 actions have been organised all over Europe and beyond. Help us to beat the record again in 2015 and to implement more actions than in any other edition of the EWWR before!

Be part of the European thrive for a sustainable change and register your action for the EWWR 2015!
